Risk models for the prediction of adverse drug reactions

Our goal within this research area is to develop risk models to predict drug-related problems and adverse drug events in various interprofessional care settings. These models can be used to identify patients with a particular need for interventions to improve medication safety.

In a national, interdisciplinary collaborative project, our research group is contributing to the development of an IT infrastructure that can be used to identify the occurrence of adverse drug events and their consequences in hospitalised patients with polymedication at an early stage or prevent them altogether.  Methods and procedures of the 'Medical Informatics Initiative (MII)' of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) are deployed in this project.

Another project in cooperation with the chamber of pharmacists of Westphalia-Lippe (Apothekerkammer Westfalen-Lippe) and the health insurance fund Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse (AOK) NordWest is concerned with the identification of patients at high risk of drug-related problems, based on the results of structured medication reviews in community pharmacies.
